A robotic arm has been developed to help injured US soldiers. It was developed by the inventor of the Segway and partly funded by the Pentagon because of the type of injuries sustained by US troops in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. 1,800 service members underwent major limb amputations as a result of injuries sustained in those wars. 90 per cent of people who used the device can perform complex tasks like using keys and locks, feeding themselves, using zips and brushing and combing hair.
