| Recently laid off Toronto woman wins $60 million on Lotto MAX Deng Pravatoudom had been playing same numbers for 20 years
A Toronto woman who was recently laid off has won $60 million in the Lotto MAX lottery.
Deng Pravatoudom, 57, hit the jackpot in the Tuesday, Dec. 1 draw, using the same numbers she had been playing for 20 years.
“My husband had a dream about some lottery numbers 20 years ago,” she said in a news release issued by OLG Monday, Jan. 18.
Pravatoudom is married and has two adult children, and two grandchildren. She picked up her winnings at the OLG Price Centre in Toronto, taking part in the crown corporation’s first ever virtual winner’s celebration. So instead of picking up the winnings with family and media in attendance, her family and friends were hosted virtually.
Pravatoudom is an immigrant from Laos, having arrived in Canada in 1980 with her 14 siblings. She and her husband had worked as general labourers for more than 40 years trying to scrape what they could for their family.
“Due to the pandemic I was laid off last spring, so this money will certainly help make our lives much easier,” she said.
